Chris Chase Salon

PrettyCity.com has partnered with beauty destinations all over the city to offer $31 services throughout the month of October. We can’t help but be enticed by the Kérastase intensive conditioning treatment, style and blowout ($105 value) at Chris Chase’s West Chelsea salon–dripping in crystals and glamour–where guests sip bubbly before getting their wash and dry on. Register at Pretty City (totally free) to view the list of $31 services at participating salons, spas and medspas. Get a Brazilian at Beauty Jewel Spa, a manicure and brow wax at Senses Salon or a pore cleansing facial and oxygen treatment at Randee Elaine. You can even get a scrip for the lash multiplying Latisse treatment ($150 value) from Dr. Jackson at Nuvision in midtown! Best of all, these amazing offers raise funds to promote breast cancer awareness. It’s a pretty city indeed.

Crocodile, python, ostrich, lizard, you name it—Carlos Falchi has a thang for skin… His exotic creations fetch price tags in the thousands at Saks and Bergdorf’s, but Falchi’s capsule collection for Target will only run you between $25 and $50.  The collection comprises 13 styles fashioned out of faux snakeskin in hues of teal, plum, brown, gray and black. My favorite is the patchwork cross-body bag ($24.99, pictured). Who doesn’t love the functionality of a cross-body coupled with the Samantha Jones’ish sexiness of snakeskin? Available November 1st through December 24th at Target.

Selena Gomez Exceeds Expectations

Selena Gomez at the 6th Annual Hollywood Style Awards

Selena Gomez at the 6th Annual Hollywood Style Awards

Selena Gomez is so much more than we’ve come to expect from Disney stars.  The rumors and internet photo scandals that follow her network colleagues have never been an issue for Gomez.

In addition to being the youngest UNICEF ambassador ever–she recently completed her first field mission to Ghana–the girl gives some seriously good hair! If you ask me, she was the belle of the ball at this year’s Hollywood Style Awards. On top of the fact that I would buy any hair product she claimed to have used that night (that shine!) I love that she did a bold red lip, but with a hint of melon to keep it fresh.

Minx it Up

A selection of minx at Bliss

ScarJo’s got some seriously covetable minx goin’ on in Glamour’s November issue. While admiring the super cute black and white houndstooth design Mrs. Reynolds sports in her spread with Pete Yorn, I was reminded that I still haven’t been minxed! Lucky for me, since its mainstream debut last year (via Beyoncé’s Single Ladies video) minx services are becoming easier to find. Prices range from $55-80 and designs typically last about a week to a week and a half. Check out my city picks below and get your nails did–great fun for upcoming Halloween parties! WARNING: You will be compelled to do the “put a ring on it” hand flip immediately following your minx session.

It Fits to a Tee

I came across Umsteigen when I went for a quick run to Farmer’s Market in McCarren Park. I was sweaty, gross, and my workout clothes shriveled on my back when I saw these beauties hanging in a stall. These T-shirts had that perfect balance of simplicity and vibrant color… and the patterns, oh the patterns! Dear reader, I love them so much I would paper all my walls with it.

Sadly, I didn’t have my wallet on me at the time. But I did have an epiphany: T-shirts wear out, but beauty is forever. Also, the internets is awesome because online shopping exists.

All Umsteigen shirts, hoodies and dresses are limited-edition and hand screen-printed. Get yours here.

Beauty Hits and Misses at the Emmy’s

Posted in beauty, beauty patrol, celepretty by april w. on September 21, 2009

Hits:

Ginnifer Goodwin: Ethereal beauty at its best. Goodwin owns her new pixie cut á la Rosemary’s Baby. Bringing a modern breath of fresh air to the carpet, she capped the look with a nude lip, bronzed glow and statement jewelry.

Leighton Meester: Though she looked more Grecian goddess than Park Avenue princess, she’s still Queen B. Our favorite gossip girl hit the carpet with a bold berry lip, loosely tamed tresses and beautifully matched green gems.

Drew Barrymore: With a bold red lip and kempt bouffant, she can do no wrong. Drew’s been to countless awards shows, but always looks so fresh and happy to be on the carpet–as if she were walking it for the first time. A far cry from last week’s much talked about roller punk dye job. But from derby queen to red carpet glamazon, somehow she never fails to charm.

Misses after the jump….

Get thee to Chanel in SoHo, tonight! To celebrate Fashion’s Night Out, Chanel will preview its limited-edition Jade nail collection a day early with free manis at their champagne nail bar. The hotly anticipated Jade duo (Jade and Jade Rose) are a perfect respite between the bright lacquers of summer and the rich jewel tones of fall. Though the mineral inspired shades are nearly matte indoors, step outside and a hint shimmer peeps out. Jade and Jade Rose will officially go on sale at Chanel nationwide and Chanel.com on Friday, September 11th ($25, each).

The collection was created by Peter Philips, global creative director of Chanel makeup, as a companion to Chanel’s Autumn/Winter Ready-to-Wear. For Jade, Philips and the Chanel makeup lab used the green tweeds from Lagerfeld’s collection as inspiration. “Karl wanted a green shade to evoke the jade notes of the collection,” said Philips.  What the Kaiser wants, the Kaiser gets!

It’s just Betty, now…

Posted in beauty, celepretty by april w. on September 5, 2009

0805betty_articleOh, how we’ve waited for specifics on the Ugly Betty Season 4 makeover… Early focus groups on finding a new look to match Betty’s promotion to associate features editor brought talks of hair and makeup changes, Chanel suits and, wait for it, removal of the braces. Being that my office is just around the corner from Mode’s fictional headquarters (the Woolworth building) where Betty is filmed, I’ve eaten many a lunch in the facing park—poised for the reveal. Alas, my timing was off and I ended up seeing it on Just Jared.

From the photos that were leaked it looks as though ABC’s opted on baby steps for the revamp of our favorite Mexi’nista. Though there were hopes of a posh shoulder length bob it looks as though a Brazilian blow-out will equal Betty’s hair transformation. Makeup stayed light, a little blush, a very natural lip and a refined brow. According to Latina we can expect Betty’s wardrobe to keep its bright colors, ankle socks and accessories, but with a bit more polish. Though she’s not wearing her glasses in this shot, it’s reported that she’ll continue to sport red frames. And the big question, braces or no braces? Braces, it seems. Season 4 of Ugly Betty premieres October 16th at 8pm
