Heirloom Beauty

Of the last remaining relics in the original François Coty empire, is Coty’s Airspun Loose Face Powder. The one hundred and one year old recipe from the famed French perfumer is light, matte and bears a floral heart with notes of bergamot, clove, violet and orange. The original is actually a little strong for me though. I prefer the fragrance free (not actually fragrance free, just toned down a bit) luminous translucent version which comes in lovely aqua colored box of the same art deco design as the original. In the summer, a light dusting over concealer is all you need.
Neighborhood Watch: Malin+Goetz on the UWS

In an effort to preserve the neighborhood charm of the UWS space where Malin+Goetz recently set up shop, the skincare duo opted not to remove the original sign reading, “La Gran Esquina Barber Shop.” They also opted not to add any discerning Malin+Goetz signage hinting that it’s no longer a Dominican barber shop.
Getting over the fact that I passed Malin+Goetz three or four times before I realized it was Malin+Goetz—and the fact that the massive front windows and lack of a/c create a run for your life (!) oven effect—I’m generally pretty excited about the new apothecary in my ‘hood. Upper West Siders too lazy to trek it to Chelsea (M+G’s only other NYC locale) have no excuse not to stock up on the line’s ultra sensitive ph balanced skin, hair and fragrance products now that they have their very own in the 10024.
Hello Pretty Picks:
I copped the mojito lip balm ($12) made with 10 Cane rum and natural mint and lime extract. Hydrating and refreshing–just as a mojito should be.

The perfumery offers a simple but widely pleasing selection–hard to play favorites here. Tonics—12% eau de toilette—like lotus root, rum, lime, geranium, musk and petitgrain (think bergamot, lavender and citrus on that one) come in one ounce ceramic pump spray bottles ($48). Perfect for travel and sultry summer weather.

The dark rum candle was also a fave, but pricey at $48
